What is Bed & Breakfast (B&B) ?

Welcome to a Real Bed & Breakfast in Bruges

Hosted by Cathérine

Over the past few years, the term “Bed & Breakfast” has lost some of its meaning. Many guests arrive without knowing what to expect—and that’s exactly why I’ve created this page.

Let me explain what a real B&B truly is—especially here in Flanders, Belgium.

🏡 What Makes a B&B Real?

A Bed & Breakfast is a private home that opens its doors to guests. It’s not a hotel, not a studio rental, and not just a place to sleep—it’s a lived-in house, adapted to provide hospitality.

At my home, I offer:

  • Three guest rooms

  • Each with a private bathroom

  • A daily homemade breakfast

  • A cozy shared living room for relaxing or socializing

There is no restaurant or guest kitchen, but you’ll find countless dining options in Bruges just steps away. For everyone’s comfort, food is not allowed in the rooms.

🕒 Arrival & Check-In

Check-in is from 17:00 to 19:30.
Outside this window? No problem! I can provide a door code so you can drop off your luggage and, if applicable, park your car.

Prefer a personal welcome? Just let me know your estimated arrival time within check-in hours, and I’ll be there to greet you and share tips about Bruges.

💬 Why Booking Directly Matters

Booking platforms like Booking.com or Expedia are useful, but they can flood you with automated messages and add unnecessary fees.
When you book directly, you:

  • Receive clear and personalized communication

  • Get the best price

  • Support small, independent hosts directly

✅ Licensed & Inspected

Yes, I live on the premises.
Yes, this is an officially licensed B&B with all required permits, insurance, and inspections.
Sadly, many listings today use the “B&B” label without offering breakfast, personal contact, or proper registration. These are often unlicensed rentals operating under the radar.

Here, you can feel safe and informed—what you see is what you get.

🤝 A Note on Expectations

I fully respect your privacy and will only interact when invited.
In return, I kindly ask you to read the information provided and reach out with any questions. Clear communication on both sides leads to the best experience possible.

I Look Forward to Welcoming You

Thank you for taking the time to learn about what a real B&B offers.
If you have any doubts, feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to help.

Warmly,
Cathérine
Your host in beautiful Bruges 😊
